The news of the creation of a self-sustaining robot has stirred up the internet as online users have condemned the creation of such.
According to the scientist who worked on the project, the robot is capable of eating, growing and evolving like a living creature. Although the scientists claim they are not creating a living organism, it exhibits the features of an organism as complex as a mold.
Professor Dan Luo, a biologist at the University of Cornell who is one of the scientists who worked on the project revealed that the tiny machines are made of lifelike materials which power themselves by their artificial metabolism.
Furthermore, Professor Luo said the material which allows this machine to function as a living creature was designed based on the DNA. This artificial bio-material gives the machine the ability to generate energy and also use it up and when left on its own it can self-assemble.
‘The fascinating thing about this lifelike robot is their ability to die eventually after some time’ said Professor Luo. This is a lifelike complexity which has not been seen in any robot before.
Though these robots are not quite the humanoid robot seen in the fictional movie, “Terminator”; but with the level of complexity and the lifelike nature of this artificial robot, online commenters have described the robot as terrifying tagging while Cornell the evil corporation in the Terminator movie.
However, Microsoft founder, Bill Gates and Billionaire Elon Musk have expressed their thoughts about building artificial intelligence has sophisticated and believe they pose the same danger as nuclear weapons and can later become an immortal dictator.
