Survey: Mostly Millennials and Men are the Victims of Scams and Robocalls

The increasing spams calls and spam text messages in the U.S in the past few years have called for concern. In an interview Truecaller, a spam call blocking app and caller ID, had with Fox news, it was revealed that 1 in 6 Americans had been scammed in the last 12 months through various dubious means compared to 1 in 10 in the prior 12 months period.

During this interview, Truecaller said that in the last one year, spam calls averaged 32 per month while spam text messages were at an average of 11 per month most of which were Robocalls. This means approximately 97.2 billion calls related to spams and 33.4 billion spam related to text messages have been received in the United States alone. This statistics shows an increase of 39 percent from the previous year which was 23 calls per month.

Through this means, phone scammers have been making more money than ever as Americans have lost up to $10.5 billion to this scams in the last one year compared to $8.9 billion in the previous year. Thus on average, a scammed victim lost an average $244.

Some of the means these scammers use in luring their victims is by offering them a low-interest rate loan or a better credit card rate among others through which they access security and personal information about them.

The fascinating fact about this is that the scammed victims are mostly people between the age bracket of 18-34 years which one would not expect as this class of people is more technology-savvy.
