Beirut – The Capital and largest city of Lebanon witnessed the gathering of protesters in Riad Al Solh Square on Tuesday morning. This was the sixth day of the nationwide protest in Lebanon. The country army opened many blocked highways and road blockades.

The first sign of potential protest appeared on Monday night when Hezbollah and Amal’s supporters drove on bikes to central Beirut and tried to interrupt the protests. They were pushed back by the army.

Lebanese government under Prime Minister Saad Hariri brought a package of long reforms to try to ease an economic crisis and lower the biggest protest against the ruling party.

The cabinet approved a 2020 state budget that does not impose any new taxes on people and aims for a deficit of 0.6 percent of GDP down from the previous target of around 7 percent. The protest began last Thursday after a fee was proposed on WhatsApp calls and the price of cigarettes was raised. This issue became a major world news, leading to several protests.

Protesters have brought a united front and banned any symbols except the Lebanese national flag and the flag of the Lebanese Armed Forces. Protesters are not considering the cabinet measures and are calling for the overthrow of the entire government. The situation is more complex in the country and the government is looking to alleviate the protest running for six days.
