Jay Five Overcame Many Challenges To Become An Indie Musician

Johnny “Jay Five” Harris has been working independently on his music for 20 years. He started off as a teenager learning music production and engineering as he went along. He used to sing choirs in church as a kid. Music has been his solace for the longest time.

Currently he and his business partner Marcus M Dot Glenn have a management marketing agency/label called High Power Society with a distribution partnership with Vydia. Here, Jay Five has his own mentorship program called Praying Every Emotion Reaches Success (P.E.E.R.S). This is a multicultural unified driven mentorship program that allows individuals to achieve mental stability, financial literacy, physical development, emotional growth, and spiritual guidance.

The artist will also be dropping a compilation album with other artists who have been grinding, very soon. Like him they have been dedicating their time to the craft they are passionate about. He produces his own music and considers completing his education and getting a college degree his biggest achievement till now. Jay Five wishes to work with Jay-Z in the coming future.

Jay Five’s mother Valerie Shorter single handedly brought up him and his other siblings. He was the first to graduate college in his family. It was not easy for his mother but she did the best she could to raise her kids while dealing with the separation from his father.

His brother Anthony Troupe was shot and killed which led Jay Five to abandon his footballer dreams. He no longer wanted to live in a poor community surrounded by drugs and violence. He didn’t want to fall in the system and music got him out of the hood.
