Iran threatens to Retaliate Against US if Sanctions are Extended

IRAN – MIDDLE EAST – The Iranian parliaments on Sunday have spoken on behalf of the country and have vowed to retaliate against the United States as soon as its elite Revolutionary Guards are proclaimed terrorists by the United States.

According to three American Officials, the United States will soon declare the Iran Revolutionary Guards a foreign terrorist organization. If this is followed through, it will be the very first time the United States will refer to another country’s military organization as a terrorist group.

According to the Iranian State news agency, 255 of the 290 Iranian lawmakers have vowed to respond to the action, if taken with a reciprocal response. They referred to American leaders as originators and supporters of terrorism in the Middle East and vowed to regret the move which they tagged as idiotic and inappropriate.

The announcement, which is expected to be made by the State Department on Monday, has been warned against by critics, who predicted it might spark similar reactions towards the United States’ intelligence and military agencies among unfriendly nations around the world.

According to reports, Mohammad Ali Jafari, IRGC commander warned in 2017 that if President Trump goes ahead to declare the Revolutionary Guards as terrorists, the American army will start receiving treatments being meted out to Islamic states around the world.

Mike Pompeo who is United States’ Secretary of State has described the policy change as one of the current administration’s strict stand towards Tehran.

The IRGC was set up after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and is currently Iran’s most powerful security organization. It has about 125,000 soldiers, is influential on the political system and controls portions of Iran’s economy.
