Discover The Most Common Ways For Rodents To Get Into Your Pantry

Once a rodent has made its way into your pantry it is likely to feel like it is in heaven! With a plentiful supply of food and water at hand, there is little else that the rodent will need, except perhaps to call its friends!

If you discover rodents in your pantry then you will need to throw away any food that the rodents have been in contact with. This is because rodents carry a huge array of diseases, you don’t want to take the risk as some of the diseases can be deadly. The best thing to do is call your local pest control firm and have them eliminate the issue for you. They will also help you to identify how they are getting in

Cracks & Gaps

The most common way for a rodent to enter your pantry is through a crack or gap in your wall. Mice have been known to squeeze through a gap as small as a pencil, it is an impressive feat. You need to walk around your pantry on the inside and the outside to look for any gaps.

These holes should be filled straight away to prevent the rodents from coming back in or even getting out. While you may not want a rodent trapped in your pantry, it is the easiest way for the pest control experts to ensure they have eliminated all of them.

You can find out more info about your local pest control company here.

Food Attracts Them

It is important to note that rodents are attracted to the smell of food. If you place items in your pantry that have been opened and not properly re-sealed the rodents will detect the smell and find away to get in. The easiest way to prevent this from happening is to eliminate the smell of food. That means sealing any open packet in a container, preferably plastic or metal. This will make your pantry much less appealing to rodents.

Don’t Forget Your Door  Vents

One of the easiest ways for a rodent to get into your pantry is under the internal door. There are many ways the rodents can get into your home undetected. They can then slip under the pantry door and have a wonderful time in your pantry.

Of course, fitting brushes to the bottom of your pantry door will help to stop this from happening.

You should also check the vent in your pantry regularly. It is designed to allow air to flow but if it is damaged rodents and other pests can get through. It is also important that the vent is made from metal to make it as difficult as possible for the rodents to gnaw through.

Moisture

Rodents need somewhere warm and moist to live. If there is a water source in or near your pantry they will find it a great spot to set up home.  You need to check for leaks and eliminate any, as well as standing water sources. This will help to ensure they are not attracted to your pantry and looking for a way in.
